These have included workshops creating music on GarageBand iOS for schools, found sound workshops for families, songwriting for adults facing challenges, ‘music club’ for young people facing challenges and music production workshops for musicians. Julie also offers one to one teaching. Julie firmly believes that having women as educators will inspire more women into the industry.
Composing
Julie has been composing tunes and songs since she was a child and is a self-taught musician. She has received commissions for exhibitions and for sync. She was in a writing and production partnership, River Valley Giants, who self-released their Broadcast to Nowhere album before parting ways. Julie is currently producing a showreel of her own compositions with funding from the Arts Council.
Community
Julie has worked closely with Core Music CIC, a Hexham social enterprise, for over ten years where they have collaborated on community projects, delivering workshops and providing affordable recordings. Julie shares their commitment to making music accessible for all and is currently a Director, providing strategic direction and ensuring Core meets its business and social aims. Julie is passionate about supporting and empowering women and marginalised genders in music and is a founding member of North East Sound Women Network (NESWN), a regional network for women and gender expansive people interested in sound.
